Job description

Gaulbridge is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to design, build, and scale secure backend systems that power our global payments infrastructure and APIs. This role is central to enabling high-availability, compliant, and performance-driven financial services used across multiple jurisdictions.

You will work on mission-critical systems handling payments, integrations, and data flows, ensuring reliability, scalability, and security at enterprise scale.

Job responsibilities

Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services for global payments and financial workflows

Build and optimise secure APIs used by internal products, partners, and external clients

Architect systems for high availability, fault tolerance, and performance at scale

Implement security best practices, including data protection, encryption, and access controls

Integrate with banking partners, PSPs, card networks, and third-party financial services

Ensure systems meet regulatory, compliance, and audit requirements across jurisdictions

Monitor, debug, and optimise production systems to ensure uptime and reliability

Collaborate closely with frontend, product, compliance, and DevOps teams

Contribute to system architecture decisions, technical roadmaps, and engineering standards

Write clean, well-tested, and well-documented code following best practices
